Strong Memorial Hospital University of Rochester

The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center is a multifaceted practice that specializes in and cares for patients with diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus in Rochester, New York. The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery is part of the University of Rochester Department of Surgery and the University of Rochester School of Medicine. The division currently consists of seven full-time academic surgeons who are double board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery or the Royal College of Surgeons.

The responsibilities of these positions include teaching the principles of colon and rectal surgery to both surgical residents and medical students during their clinical years. This clinical practice encompasses inpatient care at Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital. In addition, we have a very busy outpatient clinic service at the Sawgrass Ambulatory Surgical Center which is constantly expanding outpatient care, as well as screening and therapeutic endoscopy services at the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery endoscopy unit. We cover the breadth of colorectal surgery within our practice from diverticulitis and anorectal to pelvic floor, anal dysplasia, comprehensive colorectal cancer care, and treatment of IBD. There is a variety of techniques practiced here from transanal surgery (TEMS and TAMIS), a robust robotic and minimally invasive experience, reoperative pelvic surgery, comprehensive exposure to colonoscopy for screening and therapeutics, and pelvic floor diagnostics like manometry.
